Mosayile Kuthira Meenukal
Overview
Cine Shore Rating:
Try it for a difference.
Alex (Asif Ali) is the heir of a wealthy family from Kottayam who gets prisoned, trapped by his friend. He doesn’t go with the prison life and escapes just to meet another prisoner Akbar Ali (Sunny Wayne). What made them go to jail, what are their past and where will they end up forms the rest.
Asif Ali does a neat job as Alex. He is nowadays choosy about his characters and that can be seen this time too. He delivers the lighter moments in the movie. On the other hand, Sunny Wayne gets a serious role and he is good as Akbar Ali. He enacts as a Lakshadweep citizen and got to deliver a different Malayalam (Lakshadweep dialect) which he does impressively. Jojo once again entertains as a frustrated cop. Janani Iyer and Swathi are okay as the female leads though they have only few to do. Supporting casts are fine.
Story of the movie is wafer-thin and screenplay is quiet straight. There are no much twists or turns and things are pretty predictable and lack of much entertainment factors limits the wholesome appeal for the movie. But the makers have tried to concentrate more on the narration part which is engaging. Few symbolisms during the initial introduction of Asif’s family are very impressive. Debutant director Ajith Pillai also succeeds in presenting the nativity elements during the Lakshadweep portions.
The major highlight of the movie is undoubtedly the visuals. Abhinand Ramanujam of ‘Aamen’ once again provides many eye-candy visuals. Andaman and Nicobar Islands is shown as Lakshadweep and it is presented convincingly. Another asset is Prashant Pillai’s songs and background scores which provides a poetic feel in many places post intermission. It is very much clear from the movie that the makers wanted to project it more visually rather than the content and to an extend they succeeds. Editing is okay and there aren’t much drags. The team has to be appreciated for having no compromises on budget for a movie without much face value.
The initial moments are good and there is a freshness in presentation. But goes pretty ordinary afterwards. Still there are some light humours which keeps things alive. Post interval movie gets little serious, but the music and visuals take the narrative forward. Still there are no much drama and turns without which the movie looks quiet plain apart from the technical richness. Nevertheless Mosayile Kuthirameenukal is a different offer and can be watched once if you are okay with serious flicks.
