‘I Don’t Believe In The 100 Crore Club’ – Prithviraj
Malayalam actor Prithviraj who made his Bollywood debut with ‘Aiyya’ last year has gone on record saying that he doesn’t believe in the much talked about 100 crore club. Prithvi feels that a film’s success should be judged on how many people watch the film rather than by the yardstick of 100 crore which the actor feels isn’t a proper indicator of the film’s performance.
Prithvi further asked how a film having a budget of 130 crore can be called a winner if it collects 100 crore. If a film made on 5 crore or 35 crore collects 100 crore, it can be safely called a big winner at the box office. But Prithvi feels that it is unnecessary to talk about films budgeted at 90 crore that just collect 100 crore.
The actor talked about his dream of seeing films budgeted at 3.5 crore collecting 100 crore in future and felt that it is something that should be thought about. Prithvi has produced some interesting films like ‘Urumi’ and ‘Indian Rupee’ in Malayalam, but the actor feels that producing a film in Bollywood is risky as there are crore at stake and that he isn’t experienced enough as yet for doing the same. Directing a film in Hindi is however a big dream for the actor who has been rumoured to be directing the Hindi remake of his hugely appreciated and successful ‘Ayaalum Njaanum Thammil’ which is said to feature Bollywood Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan.
