Manglish Is Not What You Expect – Salam Bappu
Discussions are more on Mammootty‘s Eid release ‘Manglish‘. The film from its titles and posters are expected to be a comedy flick where there is a heroine who talks English and the hero who struggles with his English. But in an interesting chit-chat director Salam Bappu has spread some lights on the characters, the subject and the genre of the film. ”Once the title ‘Manglish’ was announced many, including the journals and social media labelled my movie as a comedy crapper which deals with a plot of verbal errors between the main leads on English. But actually, it isn’t. Neither my hero doesn’t know English and nor speaks English at all and the movie discusses the cultural difference between an English lady and a typical Malayali guy” . Moreover, Salam clarifies that Manglish will be a wholesome entertainer with songs, comedy and fights. Mammootty’s role will utter few punch dialogues too. In short it will be a film which will cater to all audience, confirms Salam Bappu. When asked about the dance following a still from the movie, the director says that there wont be any dance in the film and those stills weren’t official. ”Those still weren’t official but working ones and the movie wont see those bits when the final print will be ready”. On Mammootty’s character, he says that it will be an energetic character and will combine everything which one expects from a star like Mammootty. The character ‘Malik’ is written and presented on a par with audience expectations.
When speaking about Mammootty, Salam Bappu is no exception regarding the encouragements Mammootty extends to newcomers. ”Of course, it is Mammootty’s encouragements and inspiring words which are the major driving force to me and my team to make this movie. No one has given such a support to comparatively new ones like me in the industry”, concludes Salam. Manglish is all set for a July last week release falling with Eid. The movie sets the debut of foreign actress ‘Caroline Bech’ as the heroine and will see actors like Tini Tom, Srinda in supporting roles. The film is being produced by Haneef for ‘Red Rose Productions’.
