Kollywood Box Office – Biriyani takes lead

Karthi’s ‘Biriyani’ faced Jiiva’s ‘Endrendrum Punnagai’ at the box office this weekend. Both films are of different genre with Biriyani being a comedy thriller aimed more at the masses while while Endrendrum Punnagai is a rom-com that should do well especially in urban centres. As per initial reports, the battle is pretty even in the A centres across TN but the overall lead is for Biriyani which tops the box office this weekend thanks to hype around it.

However, the Jiiva starrer has shown a jump in collections due to its positive word-of-mouth while Biriyani has opened to mixed responses. So, it shall be too early pick a winner. The coming week will give us a clear idea about which film is the winner at the box office. Biriyani also features Hansika and Santhanam in the cast. The film is being produced by Studio Green and directed by Venkat Prabhu. Endrendrum Punnagai features Trisha, Andrea, Santhanam, Vimal and Nasser in the lead. The film is directed by Ahmed.
