Overview

Cine Shore Rating:
4.0Our Picks :The magical combo strikes again.

01. Mersalaayiten

Singers: Anirudh Ravichander, Neeti Mohan
Lyrics: Kabilan

Anirudh’s vocals for Rahman. Something to watch out for. A trance like composition which relies more on Anirudh’s voice. There’s an interesting transition to desi beats in midway plus the beautiful violin arrangements. Neeti Mohan is in great ease. May not he the best from Rahman, but definitely a decent track.

02. Ennodu Nee Irundhaal

Singers: Sid Sriram, Sunitha Sarathy
Lyrics: Kabilan

Another interesting track. Sid Sriram who rendered the “Adiya” track from Kadal once again gives a brilliant work and credits to Rahman for choosing him for this track which wouldn’t have been this good if not Sid. Sunitha Saradhy has got a little to do but does what she has got. A soothing and well composed track.

03. Ladio

Singers: Nikita Gandhi
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

This track starts with a bang. The whacky lyrics and increasing tempo is sure to catch with everyone. Though the tune in the beginning resembles some western pop, later goes novel with Tamil intervention of Tamil lines. There is also a brilliant step up and step down of tempo in equal intervals which is nothing short of a masterpiece. Nikita Gandhi, who is less heard in mainstream music does a brilliant work. Another superb track.

04. Pookkalae Sattru Oyivedungal

Singers: Haricharan, Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

Here’s what we were waiting for. Whenever Shankar and Rahman comes together they makes sure that one track should go full melody. With this, the combo once again succeeds in the mission. Haricharan and Shreya Ghoshal is at their usual best. Madhan Karky has provided the lyrics and that is another USP of this track.

05. Aila Aila

Singers: Aditya Rao, Natalie Di Luccio
Lyrics: Madhan Karky

Starts nice with an interesting keys and is transformed into a wholesome track. There is a sync of typical Rahman ingredients like soothing string works, crazy chorus, and a melodious extensions. The choice of singers also adds to the freshness of the song. Madhan Karky’s lyrics is another attraction. Experimental but striking.

There are few additional tracks in the form of reprises and remixes which are just an icing on the cake.

VERDICT

Expectations doesn’t have any limits when the best in the business gets together. We are talking about director Shankar and A.R Rahman. With ‘I’ the team has another winner. Rahman comes out of the comfort zone and tries something experimental with a couple of songs and he does it comfortably. The choice of the singers is another highlight of “I”. “I” rides on humongous expectations and with the music they have succeeded to deliver the product. Shankar being a great extractor of his choreographers, we could expect another visual treat.

Our Picks : Ennodu Nee Irundhaal, Ladio, Pookkalae Sattru Oyivedungal, Aila Aila.

Final Word : The magical combo strikes again.
