‘Dhrishyam’ tops Christmas Releases!
It is vacation time due to the Christmas season and the New Year coming up. The Kerala Box Office saw many releases for Christmas. Mohanlal’s ‘Dhrishyam’, Dileep’s Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal’ and Fahadh Faasil’s ‘Oru Indian Pranayakatha’ were the regional releases while Aamir Khan’s big budget action thriller Dhoom-3 and Karthi’s Biriyani were the other releases.
Of the lot, ‘Dhrishyam’ has taken the box office by storm with excellent reports translating into massive collections at the ticket counter. The family thriller directed by Jeethu Joseph is simply unstoppable everywhere, be it in the urban areas or in the rural places. Dileep’s ‘Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal’ directed by Lal Jose was expected to create magic at the box office but has been a disappointment with collections dropping heavily at most places barring some main centers. The poor response coupled with the massive success of Dhrishyam has spelled doom for this film.
‘Oru Indian Pranayakadha’ directed by Sathyan Anthikad has got decent reviews and might end up as an average grosser despite heavy competition around it. This Fahadh Faasil-Amala Paul starrer has got off to a decent start at the box office. Aamir Khan’s Dhoom-3 got a huge start at the box office and despite mixed reports is doing fabulous business that ensures profits for its distributors. Biriyani has opened to mixed responses but the Venkat Prabhu factor is giving it decent collections though there is a drop for sure. The coming days will decide whether it can succeed at the box office after a good opening.
Overall, led by ‘Dhrishyam’ , it is a good Christmas indeed for the Malayalam Industry.
