Anjaan – Music Review
Overview
Cine Shore Rating:
Our Picks : Bang Bang Bang, Oru Kan Jadai, Kaadhal Aasai.
Singers: K.G. Ranjith
Lyrics: Madan Karky
The most awaited song from the album and guess what the album starts off with a bang in all means. It all stars with a powerful rock guitar and the energy are then carried on by Ranjith who is in full form here. Then there is an Arabian interlude which saves the track from becoming monotonous. As the song proceeds you have another winner from Yuvan in the form of a bhangra with an energetic chorus work. Madhan Karky who is known more for his classy work comes up with commercial lines elevating the hero throughout, also giving us a clue about the whole setting of Anjaan. The bullet shots in between are a real scream. With the help of some stylish visuals, it should do wonders with Suriya’s fans. The perfect way to start the album.
Singers: Benny Dayal, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Shweta Pandit
Lyrics: Viveka
The energy in the title song is extended to this track too. The second track is also a rock number, but the beats are somewhat paced version of ‘Dosth Bada Dosth’ from ‘Saroja’. Benny Dayal once again proves that there is no better replace for him with this kind of tracks. The female humming in between is really soothing. Yuvan also lends his vocals here and there and doesn’t disturb the flow of the track. But if something which this song lacks would be the freshness. There is a feel of déjà vu here and there in an otherwise good track.
Singers: Andrea Jeremiah, Suriya
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar
Another track which is most expected just because of one reason, Suriya with the vocals. The song which sounded like an Arabian one in the beginning suddenly transforms into a massy ‘Kuthu’ number. Though Suriya doesn’t sound like a mainstream singer Yuvan has come up with a tune which somewhat gels with him. Andrea’s seducing voice is another plus for the song. Yuvan is more on desi instruments here and delivers a satisfying track.
Singers: Sooraj Santhosh, Yuvanshankar Raja
Lyrics: Kabilan
A track with Sufi influence. Not a usual track we come across in Tamil nowadays apart from Rahman. Keeping the genre thus, the song is high on melody and we come across the vintage Yuvan, at most part. A thumb up for Sooraj Santhosh who accompanies Yuvan with an additional high note interlude, which is nothing short of brilliant, though short lived. But an accomplished Sufi singer like Roop Kumar Rathod would have been done wonders with song like Yuvan’s own composition ‘Oru Devathai’ from ‘Vamanan’. Still Yuvan deserves an appreciation for giving his best in a style which he is not that comfortable with. Overall, a very good track.
Singers: M M Manasi
Lyrics: Viveka
Probably the item number from the film. With a dubstep style of working this is yet another typical Yuvan number. The genre being one of the forte of Yuvan, he manages to deliver an okay track which could have been better if arranged little more innovative. Manasi sizzles through the track with her oozing vocals once again. The beats are foot tapping, but lyrics looks quiet ordinary.
Anjaan brings the successful combination of Yuvan and Lingusamy and the expectations were sky high. Here Yuvan has tried his hands more on pacy numbers so as to keep up the energy which is essential for high octane action films like this. With Anjaan, Yuvan has pulled off a satisfying album or just above that. A more fresh tunes and a couple of good vocal selection would have been made this album perfect. Although, expecting a ‘Paiyya’ would bring down the excitement., Anjaan is safe on its music part and now the ball is in the films court.
Final Word : Energetic and Satisfying.
