Tamil Nadu Box Office Update

1) Veeram – Ajith’s mass entertainer continues to sustain decently at certain screens due to the actor’s massive screen presence and positive reports. The film has grossed 57 crore from the Tamil Nadu box office. The net collections of the film is about 40 crore. The film could have got the super-hit tag but due to the 30% entertainment tax ends up as a decent hit.

2) Jilla – The other Pongal release ‘Jilla’ starring Vijay and Mohanlal in the lead has almost ended its run at most places. The film took a good initial due to the buzz and despite mixed reports managed to stick on a bit due to Vijay’s starpower and family support. The film has grossed 51 crore from the Tamil Nadu box office with the net coming to 36 crore. Like Veeram, even Jilla got hit by the 30% tax cut that has brought it’s ‘hit’ tag down to above average.

Among the recent releases, Ingu Enna Solludh has bombed at the Box Office while Goli Soda has emerged a surprise hit thanks to the extremely positive talk. Vijay Sethupathy’s first offering of 2014 ‘Rummy’ released in about 200 screens last Friday and despite mixed reports has taken a good opening.
