Koothara Disappoints Big Time At The Box Office!
There were a lot of expectations around Koothara due to a variety of reasons of all kind. First of all, it was Srinath Rajendran’s 2nd directorial after the successful Second Show that had launched Dulquer Salmaan. The freshness in treatment of that flick was loved by the youth and hence there were hopes on the director. Add to that Sunny Wayne and Bharath with UTV Motion Pictures and Superstar Mohanlal doing an important cameo – need I say more about the hype? The film managed to take a decent opening but the extremely negative word-of-mouth meant that the film fell flat from the evening shows of the first day. While everybody was in acceptance of the racy fun-filled first half, the second half of the flick was found to be too long by most people with the fantasy element misfiring big time.

The film has collected a below par 2.75 crores from 30 days of its run which is very poor considering the expectations around the film. It is indeed a major setback at the box office. The Bangalore Days juggernaut was running strong at the box office when Koothara released and with the film mainly targeted at youth, a negative report meant a disaster at the box office from day-1. However, not all is wrong with the film as one may think. Srinath Rajendran’s direction and treatment was very good as usual but what was lacking was an engaging screenplay. The slow pace especially after interval undid all the good work of the first half. Still Srinath has done enough to ensure that his next film shall also be keenly awaited.
