1983 – where Nivin Pauly’s stardom started!
1983 was Nivin Pauly’s first release of 2014 and the film revolved around cricket. It was surely a break from the routine Malayalam films as it is not often that you see sports genre flicks in the industry. A lot of hope was there among the youth though considering Nivin’s popularity among the youngsters and the influence of cricket on them. The end product was an excellent film that brought nostalgia to the audiences especially those who were brought up on cricket in their childhood. The film was extremely well packaged and the dose of humor was there throughout making it a different entertainer in every sense. The film had a limited release due to its variety genre but that was a wise move from LJ Films who had taken up the flick at a point when the film had no distributors.
Lal Jose had immense faith in the film and it translated into success at the box office as well with the film making 7.2 crores in its lifetime run which is a very good result for the film. It was a much needed break for Nivin Pauly who was also appreciated for his solid performance as he portrayed three stages of his character in different age groups for the film. It was the starting of what has been a rollicking year for Nivin Pauly as Om Shanti Oshana that followed it by a week also ended up as success while his latest flick, the multi starrer Bangalore Days became a mega blockbuster too completing a hat trick at the box office for the youngster who can now be safely called a bankable star with a decent fan base. For its attempt and creativity, 1983 is laudable and deserving that it ended up as a success.
