Peruchazhi
Budget : 12 Crore
Gross : 9.60 Crore
Satellite : 5.75 Crore [Amrita]
After having all the potential to become a blockbuster, Peruchazhi couldn’t make it through the box office after an extent. Though its final gross looks big, the sky-high budget didn’t permit it to remain favourable. But the smart makers cashed in the pre-release craze of the movie by selling rights for huge amounts and associating with few brands. Summing up all these, they were possible to get back their investments. Break-even.
Mr. Fraud
Budget : 8 Crore
Gross : 6.70 Crore
Satellite : 5.50 Crore [Amrita]
The film too around a share of 3.15 and needed more for hit status which should have recovered the high budget of 8 Cr. Still the record business of Drishyam helped it in getting crazy amounts as rights, leading the producers to break-even.
Manglish
Budget : 6 Crore
Gross : 5.20 Crore
Satellite : 5 Crore [Surya]
The film gave decent profits to its producers but that’s not enough to be said as a hit as the trade norm says at least 50% of the budget is to be recovered through theatrical share. As far as Manglish is concerned it needed at least 2.5 Cr to be classified as a hit whereas its share just stood around 2.20 Cr. Thus a break-even on a whole.
God’s Own Country
Budget : 4 Crore
Gross : 3.5 Crore
Satellite : 2.5 Crore [Asianet]
With its budget being around 4 Cr, and rights being sold at 2.5 Cr, the film needed around 1.5 Cr to get back its investment which it did on its final run. Hence, a break-even.
Angry Babies In Love
Budget : 3 Crore
Gross : 3.25 Crore
Satellite : 2 Crore [Amrita]
This one had a decent run in theater’s as it got some backings from family audience and thus somehow managed to get back the investments after the lifetime run. Neither a flop, nor a Hit. A break-even.
Munnariyippu
Budget : 3.20 Crore
Gross : 2.74 Crore
Satellite : 3.40 Crore [Surya]
Though the film had good anticipation among serious movie goers, least was expected from box office for this one as it was seen as an offbeat flick. But surprisingly it opened on a good note compared to its genre and held for a week or so. But in the long run it was killed by releasing in a bad period, just days prior to Onam biggies. But at the end of the day, it gave decent profits to its makers by grossing around 2.74 Crore plus the rights. The film was completed on a shoestring budget and less schedules.
