Kaththi

When the deadly combo of Murugadoss and Vijay joined hands once again it obviously opened to thundering response. Though the film didn’t repeat the magic of Thuppakki in long run it ended up giving profits to its buyers Thameens who took it for a premium price.

Jilla

It was more than a normal Vijay film this time for the Keralites as it had their own Superstar Mohanlal also teaming up with him. The film as expected had a record breaking opening and a superb weekend. But the poor reports and ongoing Drishyam Juggernaut it lost the steam very soon ending up as an underperformed against its potential. But as the rights were taken by Mohanlal himself as his remuneration, it didn’t affect anyone involved in the business, unless few theatres who gave lump sum advances.

anjaan-poster

Anjaan

Anjaan had everything essential for a blockbuster. Be it the ultra- stylish Surya, Lingusamy, who has a good fond among Kerala audience, and a perfect release period. But the disastrous report from early morning show’s itself decided its fate, eventually becoming a loss venture.

Lingaa

Another case of over excitement and over pricing. Lingaa, definitely was a talk in every town as a Superstar Rajnikanth film. But it was true that it didn’t had the buzz of a Sivaji or an Endhiran actually, but the pre-release business was way above those films. In Kerala the hype was very average and the mixed response furthered worsened it. A price of 4.60 Cr was said by many distributors to be illogical and many felt it couldn’t have recovered even with a good talk. Finally the loss is way too big.

veeram-poster

Veeram

Veeram was quiet a potential candidate even though the hype factor was nowhere near Arrambam in Kerala. But as Jilla fever took over the state Kerala buyers found it difficult to get theatres and the final deal happened to a considerably low rate which helped them to break even and end with a small profit.

Velaiyilla Pattathari

V.I.P a.k.a Velaiyilla Pattathari got decent number of screens with the help of Vendhar and the superhit music and good reports helped it get its own share in the end. A profitable venture in Kerala.

kochadaiiyaan-poster

Kochadaiiyaan

Kochadaiiyaan had an average buzz only in Kerala and that was proven by its dull opening itself. With other Malayalam summer releases ruling the roost here, Kochadaiiyaan soon faded out with a negligible share. A loss venture.

maan-karate-poster

Maan Karate

Maan Karate was majorly marketed in the name of Murugadoss in Kerala and that in a way helped the film to gain the attention from the audience. The blockbuster songs and Shivakarthikeyan’s presence helped it to get few young audience. Against a profitable film.

HINDI

Among the Bollywood films it is undoubtedly P.K, which is the biggest earner of 2014. Bang Bang got a good gross but became a loss venture because of the high price. Happy New Year is another movie which had decent opening but didn’t sustain after the weekend. Salman had one loser in Jai Ho but his Kick did decent business here. Other films, which did notable business were 2 States and Singham 2.

DUBBED MOVIES

Among the dubbed ones only 2 films did on a decent note and unsurprisingly it had Allu Arjun in it. While Bhaiyya – My Brother [Yevadu] had him in a cameo role Lucky – The Racer [Race Gurram] performed in solo. Both these films were only profitable ventures.
